I’m an independent journalist, based in Ecuador since 2014, and also work as a fact-checker, fixer and editor. I also help NGOs, mission-driven organizations and institutions with research, writing and telling stories with impact.

I specialize in telling environment and human rights stories in Latin America for international audiences. Over the past decade, I’ve reported from all over the region during some of its key moments: I was in Brazil right after Dilma was ousted from office, in Colombia for the FARC’s Decimo Conferencia right before they laid down their arms, and have been in Ecuador long enough to see the country transition into an economic, environmental and security crisis.
My journalism has appeared in The Guardian, The Washington Post, Hakai Magazine, BBC Future Planet, Al Jazeera, Thomson Reuters Foundation and Mongabay among many others. I’ve also worked on special investigations with the Norwegian media VG and The Guardian, which involved deep diving into legal archives, analyzing government data, and finding and reaching out to tough sources. I’ve also worked as a fixer and translator in the field for visiting media, and have experience editing memoir/personal essays, news pieces and pitches by colleagues.
I also work as a fact-checker, and am a stickler for detail as well as cultural accuracy, and a translator (Spanish/French to English) for texts in the social and environmental sciences to be published in academic journals.
I also bring my narrative and analysis skills to help NGOs, mission-driven organizations and institutions dig through the data to create content and write stories with impact.
Prior to freelancing, I gained a masters in Social Anthropology from the University of Manchester, and a bachelor’s degree in Communications from SFU in Vancouver. I grew up on the Canadian prairies, but have been dedicated to understanding people and communities in all their differences, particularities and similarities since I left the farm.
When I’m not working, you’ll find me reading a book on a terrace somewhere, frolicking in the mountains, or daydreaming in a café about my future log cabin in the woods.
