Live News Spot. Protests in Ecuador over hike in fuel prices (TRT World)

This was a live TV spot. I spoke with Turkish television station TRT World about the national strike and protests that began October 3. Thousands of people across the country partook in these protests, angry over a series of labor and tax reforms, and the cutting of gas and diesel subsidies that saw the price of diesel more than double over night.

The strike, lead mainly by transportation unions, paralyzed 20 province across the country for two days. Other protests on the street, lead mainly by students, workers unions, indigenous movement, turned violent when police brought in the riot squad and responded to protesters with repeated tear and pepper gas.

By the end of Oct 4, transportation unions called off the strike, but other protesters said they will keep at it.
